Province:
Guizhou

Type Locality and Naming

It was proposed by Rong Jiayu (1979). The type section is located near Xunlientien on the top of Wulipo, northwest of the Meitan County seat in northern Guizhou Province. The reference section is at Donggongsi, Zunyi City in northern Guizhou Province.

Lithology Pattern:
Claystone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It rests pseudo-conformably on the Baota Fm (Pagoda Fm) of the Ordovician. At Donggongsi in Zunyi, the Wulipo Bed, rests conformably on the Guanyingqiao Fm of the Upper Ordovician.

Upper contact

At Donggongsi in Zunyi the Wulipo Bed, rests conformably below the Longmaxi Fm. In northern Guizhou, it underlies the Niuchang Fm.

Regional extent

The Wulipo Bed is exposed only in northern Guizhou Province (i.e., the northern margin of the Central Guizhou Oldland).

Fossils

At the type section locality the Wulipo Bed bears brachiopods Eospirigerina, Hindella, Coolinia, Dolerorthis, Rostricellula, Isorthis, Eostropheodonta, Eospirifer. At Donggongsi the main fossils are also brachiopods Dalmanella, Eospirigerina, Hindella. According to stratigraphic sequence and regional correlation the Wulipo Bed probably corresponds to the age span from the Glyptograptus persculptus zone to the Akidograptus acuminatus zone, i.e. straddling the prevalent boundary of the Ordovician-Silurian systems.
